Why Train at Porters Alpine Resort?
Porters offers the perfect terrain for our training programme. From ideal slopes for doing drills in the main basin, to increasingly steeper groomers accessed by the T-bars, as well as mellow to challenging off-piste options. Having the right terrain and uncrowded runs is a huge factor for the quality of training that we can deliver. On top of that, you get to train in a spectacular scenery and get to experience a real NZ Ski Experience with an extremely friendly ski field vibe.
Result Oriented, Professional Coaching for Recreational Skiers
In intense 3-day camps with a maximum group size of only 6 skiers, we will try to figure out how we can help you improve as much as possible in the mid and long run. Sessions include daily video checks, lot’s of personal feedback, and high-resolution action footage to line up what you feel with what you do as much as possible.
Our main goal is to create a safe, productive and fun environment for our training together, while putting in a lot of focused work so you can benefit from the training long after the camp. The goal is to help you make a real difference in your skiing so you can ski saver, faster and with less effort in all terrain. If you would like to train for more than 3 days, you can also do two or more camps in a row.
The Coaches
It obviously makes a big difference who you’re working with when it comes to improving your skiing. At our NZ camps every skier gets to train with Klaus (SOFASKI.COM founder), Hansjörg (SOFA SKI CAMPS, Japan) and Thomas (Austria Level 4 Examiner). We rotate coaches daily and run the video sessions together. Having different coaches explain things from slightly different angles has consistently led to great results and it’s something our clients really value.
Helmet Intercoms
All groups will be equipped with the latest helmet intercoms from UClear. We’ve been using helmet intercoms for over 10 years and with the newest, improved model, designed to work seamlessly in groups, we’re now using them across all SOFA SKI CAMPS. Live feedback, more skiing and less standing around talking.
Our Training Base Off the Mountain
All participants will stay at the Oxford Village Motel (more info below), located 55 minutes from the ski field. It offers the comfort and convenience we look for during our camps. Each room also includes a small kitchen unit, and there’s a supermarket just across the street. After skiing each day, we will watch the ski footage of the day and head out for dinners as a group. Everthing in Oxford will be in walking distance.
Ski Rentals, Ski Service, Gear
If you need to rent ski equipment, just let us know in advance. We can either pick it up for you or collect it together on the way back from the airport. We work with Gnomes – The Ski Experts, a highly regarded local ski shop and trusted partner. Their team will make sure you’re on the right skis and help you find any additional gear you might need.
Transport
Included in the package price is your Christchurch airport and ski field transfer, so you don’t need to worry about driving or renting a car for the duration of the training. Airport pick up 5pm the day before the start of the camp. Airport drop off around 5pm on the last day of the camp or in the morning of the next day for camp 2, 4 and 6.
Closed Days
If there should be any closed days, we will either offer a mix of ski technique related dryland training and ski video sessions, or we will drive you to one of the other ski fields for a day of free skiing.
Please email or WhatsApp +43650MKLAUSM if you have any questions.
We can’t wait to ski with you and hope that you can join us for another great ski camp experience in New Zealand!

About Porters Alpine Resort:
Skiable Terrain: 285 hectares Vertical: 678m
Base Elevation: 1310m Peak Elevation: 1980m
Porters Alpine Resort is located at the southern end of the Craigieburn Range in the South Island of New Zealand. Although it has only one chairlift I think that the terrain is ideal for our purposes. One wide blue run for doing drills and increasingly steeper T-bar accessed runs for the next step as well as a big variety of ungroomed off-piste. Those obviously depend on how much fresh snow there is, but with permanent snowmaking there should always be sufficient coverage to work on your skiing. Nearby ski fields are Mt Cheeseman, Broken River, Craigieburn, Temple Basin and Mt Hutt.
Oxford Village Motels:
The accomodation is not included in the price but we will get you in touch with Oxford Village Motel After your camp is confirmed you will get an email from the Motel with a room offer. They offer modern studios and apartments in different sizes that are rated 9.4 out of 217 reviews on booking.com. Rooms are between NZD 160 and NZD 240 and are for 1-4 people. Each unit has a kitchenette or fully equipped kitchen, unlimited free Wifi, on-site parking, heat pump, electrical blanket, satellite TV,… A supermarket, restaurants and cafe’s are in walking distance. To Christchurch airport it is only 40 minutes and 55 minutes to the ski field. Please don’t book a room until we have confirmed your spot in the camp.
